Man-eater Mallika Sherawat, long distance from LA, opens up on her Hissss-story. Ever since it was launched, your home production, Hissss, has been an eagerly anticipated film but it’s been in the making for a while now.
Will ‘Hiss’ be as awe-inspiring as the 10-years-in-the-making ‘Avatar’?
Hissss is a complicated, special effects loaded film. And this genre of film needs time for post-production, especially in Hollywood. I don’t think any film in the world can be compared to Avatar, the most expensive movie ever made. But Hissss will definitely raise the bar as far as special effects in India is concerned.
Your co-star Irrfan Khan says that the role of the vengeful reptile is tailor-made for you. That with your sizzling sensuality and sharp teeth, you make a frightening yet alluring man-eater.
Any compliment from the great Irrfan Khan is flattering. I’m a huge fan of his work and excited to see him in our movie.
Hmmm, so how many men do you kiss in Hissss? Snakes don’t kiss, they swallow. (Laughs out loud) You should ask me how many people I swallow in the film. You’ve been quoted as saying that Hissss is the “first female empowerment superhero snake horror film”.
What exactly do you mean?
Well, the nagin (female snake) is the ultimate femme fatale – a venomous shape-shifter. But at the same time, she is a sympathetic character. In our mythology she’s been depicted as a goddess and that in modern terms, would be a translated as a superhero. That’s my interpretation of the character. Most women are afraid of snakes, aren’t you? No, I’m not particularly afraid of snakes. They are pretty fascinating creatures. My earliest memories are of snake charmers who used to pass through my village in Haryana. We have had several superhit reptilian films in the past on love and vengeance, including Vyjayanthimala’s Nagin, Reena Roy’s Nagin and Sridevi’s Nagin.
Which one of them inspired Hissss?
There were also several other Nagin films too, made in South Indian languages. And also films made China, Hong Kong, Japan and Indonesia. Tsui Hark’s Hong Kong film, Green Snake, with Maggie Cheung and Joey Wong playing twin snakes, was interesting in a campy way. But strangely, one of my inspirations was An American Werewolf In London.
It’s surprising that none of our Indian Nagin movies were your muse?
Well, as a kid, I had enjoyed watching Sridevi’s Nagin. As we have just established, the subject is not new to Hindi cinema. So will it be the treatment, the SFX or Jennifer Lynch’s direction that will make Hissss different? It is a reboot of the old genre but the story, SFX and treatment are out of the box. Calling the Lynches (Jennifer and filmmaker and artist father David Lynch) different is a huge understatement.
Which was the most difficult scene to shoot?
The toughest part was dealing with the leeches crawling all over my body in freezing cold rain in the jungles of Kerala. The make-up ordeal was tough. It took over four hours for the make-up to be applied. I couldn’t drink anything the whole day and was dehydrated as I was wearing a complete body suit and couldn’t even visit the loo. Hats off to Big B for his stupendous effort.

The dusky sexy bollywood beauty actress Bipasha Basu launched her workout DVD for women here Friday evening, and said even her macho beau John Abraham could’nt resist trying out the fitness regime.
Bipasha Basu launched her DVD, “Bipasha Basu love yourself…fit & fabulous you”, targeted towards women at an event here.
“Even though I have targeted this DVD towards women, if guys want they can try too… John once tried the exercise and he was blown away,” said Bipasha.
“Be strong and healthy, love yourself. Make time for your own self. Looking good is an extra bonus. If your health is good, every aspect of your life is fantastic. Your focus in life is better; you achieve your goals faster. Exercising and eating right is a big challenge. But we have to accept this challenge, if we love ourselves,” added Bipasha.

“Six years ago, a daily paper called me ‘fat’ on their front page,” she pouted, “and that really hurt. I asked John if I was fat. Since he loves me, he wasn’t complaining. But I realised that John, my family and friends were being polite. I was fat.’’
So Bips decided that if she had to make her presence felt in showbiz, she needed to get herself an hourglass figure. “The paper actually did me a favour by insulting me,’’ she said, “it served as a wake-up call.’’
In a hurry to shed the ungainly weight, Bipasha did a lot of wrong things. She ran for hours on the treadmill, almost getting her knees to collapse. “After that, I learnt that the first step to getting fit was to get healthy,” the actress acknowledged. And with some professional help, she got an ideal routine of strength training, pilates, yoga and cardio workouts. She got herself a good, enriched diet. “The holistic approach helped. Within months, I dropped the extra weight… and also found my curves,’’ she smiled.
Now she’s ready to launch a series of fitness DVDs, and a fitness and fashion clothing line like Hollywood superstar Jennifer Lopez. Bipasha believes that she must share her fitness mantra with the world. And that’s what she has been doing over the last eight months while the world thought Bips was twiddling her thumbs – secretly working on herself.
“For an hour every day even John can’t reach me,’’ she revealed. “That hour is dedicated to my workout. I don’t say that I have the best body in the business. But yes, I have a fit body.’’ Not to mention a sexy one, eh, John?
Lara Dutta’s living out of a suitcase these days. Shooting back-to-back for one film after another, the past few months have seen the Bollywood stunner go from the Bahamas to Cambodia and London. “I have rested enough,” says Lara referring to the lull in her career last year after a rocking 2007. “Now I’m just looking forward to work and more work.”
The actress is taking her glam avatar to sizzling heights this year as she puts her best bikini bod forward in Anthony D’Souza’s Akshay Kumar-Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan starrer Blue. Produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd, the film that releases on October 16 required Lara at her sexilicious best. Though she had no hang-ups about showing off her toned figure, she does admit that there’s a “lot of hard working out to get into a bikini on screen”.
“Having a good body gives you a lot of confidence to carry off any look. But the emphasis is always on being and feeling fit. That’s sexy and, yes, sexy is fun!,” she says about her hot beach look in the film that promises to catapult her into the league of Bollywood town sexilicious brigade of Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.
Sherlyn Chopra says in a intrview with times of india
” I speak about my breast implant when asked” “Very big dreams,” she says, continuing, “I believe in the Almighty God who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly far more and above what I can ever dare to hope, ask or dream. I think of myself as competent enough to compete with the best.” She admits to a past she’d like to put behind. “Earlier, I lived in the world of mediocrity. But today, I value excellence and choose to associate with people who pursue it.”
And while she’s building her body of work, there has been talk as well about her body. To be specific, her breasts. Sherlyn is outspoken about her body, and the decision to get them surgically enhanced must have been
a tough one. “Earlier, I felt like a boy. Not any more.
Thanks to breast implants. I speak about my breasts only upon being asked. I find ‘No Comments’ a very uninteresting way to respond to a question.”
It’s been two years since we saw Sushmita Sen sizzle on screen, barring the passable Karma, Confessions And Holi, which she vehemently denied being associated with. “Yes, it’s been long since I have seen me on screen too,” she jokes. Having shed the extra weight she’d gained for her upcoming flick with Govinda, the sexy actress is ready to make up for her absence with two back-to-back films coming up and a string of flicks lined up for next year.
That string of films, which includes Dulha Mil Gaya and No Problem, among others, indicates that Sush seems to have finally found her forte – comedy. But point this out and she clarifies, “I don’t want to be bound by genres. But yes, I’m tired of consolation prizes and want to sign more commercial films.”
