Recently Saif Ali Khan had an interview with Mid-Day.com. He talked about his wedding with Kareena Kapoor and his upcoming film Aarakshan which is surrounding with controversies.
There are stories that you are planning a 2012 wedding with Kareena Kapoor…
I don’t want to talk about my personal life simply because it is distracting, and the incessant talks about it can get quite annoying. I want to come across as a serious professional and not just someone who is being talked about because of his personal life.
But is the wedding happening soon?
It’s not happening soon Whenever it happens, we will announce it.
Aarakshan deals with a controversial topic. Were you at any point anxious while signing on for the film?
No, not at all! When I read the script, I thought it was a great opportunity for me. It is fantastic that Prakashji (film’s director/producer Jha) has broached an area of political concern. These issues are inherent in India and someone has to speak about them.
And now, with so many people raising objections to the film, what are your thoughts?
I don’t think what is happening is right. Once the Censor Board has passed a film, without any cuts and with a U/A certificate, the least one can do is allow the film to be released. Yes, the subject of the film and the title itself has kind of invited controversies, but since the Censor Board had no issues, I see no reason why there should be objections raised by others? We must respect their judgement.
For someone like you who comes from an entirely diverse background, was it a challenge to play a Dalit?
There is a certain responsibility that comes with every role. With Aarakshan, there was a totally different kind of responsibility. Since, I was playing a Dalit and representing a certain community, I had to take special care. I did a little bit of research. More than my background, I think it is my fair skin and my personality that could have worked against it. But I play this guy who is academically a success, so with education comes a certain posture ¦ so that seemed fine. But generally speaking, I think you and I will never be able to understand what they have gone through, or have to go through. Dalit children still have to clean toilets even while studying in government schools. We have no idea what’s happening in some parts of our country.
Your film Agent Vinod has also been riddled with controversies… going over budget, then there were reports of you not getting along with the director Sriram Raghavan…
Agent Vinod is releasing in December. Yes, there have been all kinds of stories, which is a good thing. It is good publicity for the film. The movie has been made well within the budget. I am looking forward to the release of the film. As for me not getting along with Sriram, that’s not true either. Yes, we do discuss things, which is natural. Otherwise, I have implicit trust in him.
Why did you launch another film, Cocktail, even before the release of Agent Vinod?
That’s because we were getting the dates of the stars at the same time. Cocktail is almost 70 per cent complete and we are looking at a February 2012 release.
You have been offered many TV shows like Master Chef, India’s Got Talent etc. Why have you been turning them down?
Yes, I have been offered television shows. I wouldn’t like to disclose which ones. Something or the other didn’t work out. But I am very much open to doing television.
Aarakshan team was not allowed to enter in Uttar Pradesh for promoting their film which is based on caste reservation. It made Saif Ali Khan angry and he says, “It pains me to hear that I am not welcome in a state of my country. It’s such a shame that political parties are allowed to dictate such terms. Whatever is happening to us at the moment is certainly not desirable.”
When Aarakshan’s director Prakash Jha wanted to hold a seminar at Lucknow University, he did not get permission. Later on he booked Indira Gandhi auditorium for this seminar but was not given permission by the Lucknow Development Authority.
Praksha Jha even wanted to arrange a special screening of Aarakshan for Mayawati, he left message with a close associate of her, but she did not get back to him. It is also said that they might ban Aarakshan release in Uttar Pradesh.
Former chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav too wants a special screening of Aarakshan before its release in Bihar.
Saif Ali Khan is not appreciating the behaviour of these political parties. He says, “It is being unnecessarily made into an issue when it is not such an issue. How can you decide what is there in the film even before you have seen the film? We knew that we were working on a controversial subject, but we didn’t know that we would get this kind of treatment from a certain section of people.”
Saif is hoping for a better judgement for his film, he adds, “I just hope that the political parties respect the sentiments and not scuttle an art form in this manner. This is not a political controversy, it’s just a film. Whatever is happening is shocking for me.”
After a widely publicised break-up with Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor started dating Saif Ali Khan and she is convinced that he is the man with whom she wants to live the rest of her life.
“One does feel settled in every relationship that one is in, but this time I am with the man I want to live with for the rest of my life,” Kareena told her friend and director Karan Johar on the TV show “Lift Kara De”.
In the episode, to be aired on Sony Saturday, Kareena makes candid confessions about her life and even shows a fun side of herself while making chuski (flavoured ice balls) on the show.
Kareena is considered one of the highest paid actress in tinsel town, but she snubbed it saying: “How can I say that when I don’t know what the others are earning? Besides, I would never do a film for the money alone.”
The actress will be seen next in movies like Milenge Milenge, Ra.One and Hindi remake of Hollywood film Stepmom.

Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen is the latest Bollywood celebrity to be bitten by the tattoo bug and has got four inkings etched on herself in the past year.
The actress’ latest tattoo is a bold etching of the words ‘I Am’ on her right wrist, which she says is a proud declaration of her own identity. “I love tattoos. I have three on the arms but the fourth one I cannot show you. They are all permanent and I think I will add more to them,” Sushmita told PTI
Actor Sanjay Dutt sports not one, but multiple tattoos on his forearms, which includes names of his parents and his current wife Manyata.
In fact, Sanju got inspired from our very own Saif Ali Khan, who got the name of his girlfriend Kareena tattooed on his arm.
That’s not all, Saif also managed to inspire Deepika Padukone, who had got the initials of her then beau Ranbir Kapoor etched on her nape.
Actor Akshay Kumar has a tattoo of his son Araav’s name on his back.
