I have laid everyone’s doubts to rest now: John Abraham

Bollywood actor John Abraham is content because his recently released ‘Force’ did great at the box office. Now actor is coming up with his next release ‘Desi Boyz’ in which he will be seen sharing screen space along with gorgeous Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar and Chitrangda Singh. Though the actor has delivered hit recently but he is not ecstatic. He is as calm and mature as he was when his film ‘Jhootha Hi Sahi’ didn’t do well at the box office last year.

The actor says, “I guess if there were any sceptics around then they can well take a break.” He adds, “With ‘Force’, I have laid everyone’s doubts to rest now. All that I am interested in doing now is to put my head down and concentrate on work. I have nothing more to prove to anybody now and if at all there was someone whom I had to prove my abilities, it was my own self. With ‘Desi Boyz’, I guess it is now time to move ahead and present something entirely different to the audience. Reactions so far have been amazing; I couldn’t be happier.”

John’s next film ‘Desi Boyz’ is slated to release on November 25th.

There’s no harm in failing: John Abraham

Recently Bollywood actor John Abraham had delivered hit film ‘Force’ but the actor says success and failure doesn’t matter to him. During an interview, he talked about his films and personal life.

John says, “There is no harm in failing – but you need the guts to take failure in your stride. Movie chale, ya na chale, it really doesn’t bother me. Have I given it my best? Yes. That’s it for me. I’ve seen such bleak days that I wouldn’t want to be back there again, and I have seen success like no one else too.”

He adds, “I’ve done all sorts of films – from a “7 Khoon Maaf” and an “Aashayein”, to an intense “New York ” to a “Dostana” and a “Garam Masala”. Some of them worked and some didn’t. I’ve worked with the new lot of directors, who think differently about cinema, and those established names as well. I also did a film like Anurag Kashyap’s “No Smoking”, which had no commercial takers, but found critical acclaim nevertheless. I haven’t done regular stuff, and so, I must be ready for the risks that come with it. I’m at a stage where I don’t like doing regular. Regular is boring.”

Talking about his body, the actor says, “I weighed a 100 kg when I was shooting for “Force”. Now, I’m losing weight. It isn’t easy – neither building nor losing. Nishikant (director of “Force”) told me that he wanted an international action hero’s body, like Sylvester Stallone in “Rocky”. And I did that. Now, I’m eight kilos down, but for Sanjay Gupta’s “Shootout at Wadala” I will have to build up again.”

When John was asked if Gupta met real underworld people for the authenticity of his film? He replies, “Oh yes. He’s like that – meticulous. He met Dawood’s brother.”

Replying to the question whether mental strength matters the most or the physical, John says, “Mental strength – that’s the most important. Of course, the visual idea of strength, the body, also matters, but mental strength is what gives one the grit to pull through. And mental strength, for me, lies in the eyes. You can look into one’s eyes and gauge their real strength.”

Is John mentally strong? The actor says, “Yes. I have been through a lot, but now, I am a secure individual. And after 20 years in the industry, I’ve found my secure space too… If I weren’t mentally strong, I would not have ploughed on, when as an outsider.”

On being an outsider? John says, “It’s difficult to make one understand, but there’s so much of nepotism in B-wood. After a Shah Rukh or an Akshay Kumar, tell me one person not from a filmi family who has survived in the industry. Not one.”

John was further asked about his family, single status and ignoring queries about Bipasha. The actor says, “Yes, I can choose not to comment. Look at it this way: It’s more than a year to that part or phase of my life. And I am not the kind to look back. I have moved on.”

Moved on means, he says, “Moving on means exactly that. Everyone does that in life – moves on. Yes, I’m now single. And no, that doesn’t mean I am consciously seeking out potential candidates. But definitely, if I find the right woman, I would marry her tomorrow. But I am not planning out my personal life right now. I am planning my career. I have “Desi Boyz”, and “Housefull 2″ and after that, “Race 2″ and the movie I am producing, “I, Me Aur Main”.”

John wants to be known as the last action hero of Bollywood

Posted on 29 Sep 2011 at 7:00am

Many Bollywood stars such as Ajay Devgn, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan etc. have come up with stunt scenes in their films and now its John’s turn to show us some real stunts.

We have seen Aamir’s eight packs in ‘Ghajini’, Salman’s stylish stunts in ‘Wanted’ and ‘Dabangg’ and Ajay Devgn’s strong cop’s avtar in ‘Singham’ and here is John Abraham coming up with force an action packed film. But the actor says that his actions in the film are different from what we have seen earlier in Salman’s and Aajy Devgn’s film.

John said, “Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have been doing action but when you see ‘Force’ you will know what action I am talking about. It is real action, simply amazing. My action director Allan Amin said, he has not shot this kind of action in the past 27 years of his career.”

He added, “I feel there is space vacant for the new action hero. Younger heroes are more into romcoms, seniors are more into comedies and other stuff. I want to occupy the space of action hero. I want to be known as the last action hero of Bollywood.”

The kind of films John does it makes him happy

Recently John Abraham had an interview and he talked about the films he has done in the past, about his relationship, what is his current state of mind and also shared many things about the industry.  Here are the excerpts…..

After Dostana and New York, you chose to do some meaningful cinema that did not exactly give your career a high. Do you regret doing those films?
We all do films when we get excited about. I connected with No Smoking, Aashayein, Kabul Express, Jhoota Hi Sahi and Saat Khoon Maaf. I do one film a year because I am financially in a secure state and don’t need to do dhinchaak films. My friends in the trade have often advised me that I should stick to doing Dostana or Garam Masala kind of films and I will be commercially more successful. However, I realize that after being in the industry for 20 years I realize that I am not cut out for item numbers or dancing. Even if you ask me today, I would like to do a No Smoking Part 2. You might say that I am in a professionally crazy space, but I am happy with that!

But with film revenues crossing the 100 crore mark and actors wanting their movies to be ‘paisa vasool’, how will you justify your choices?
Yes, that’s why I am justifying it with Nishikant Kamat’s Force. It’s a remake of a Tamil film and in the same genre as Dabangg, Ghajini, and the like. You never really know what works in Bollywood. The audiences go to watch a film, come out and say ‘it is a bad film.’ But the promotional activity lures the audience to at least go to the theatre and call that film ‘bad.’ I don’t want to be in that space where a person goes to the movie theatre and calls my film ‘crap’. It does not gratify me as an actor. But having said that, I have been told that my films suffered earlier because I did not promote them well. So I am following others in the promotion game! To justify myself further, I am doing all commercially hit formula films like I, Me aur Main, Shootout At Wadala, Race 2, Housefull 2, Desi Boyz…

There is a dearth of good male models on the ramp.
After 2002 (I bid adieu to ramp modeling then) and before me there was Arjun Rampal, Milind Soman, Dino Morea and Deepak Malhotra. There is no space for male models because all showstoppers for fashion designers are done by actors and even commercials are dominated by actors. Bollywood actors have stepped in their shoes leaving no space for male models to earn their bread. Maureen Wadia has often remarked that when will we see another John Abraham on the ramp? One needs to get an educated supermodel to talk about this.

Your relationship with Bipasha seems to be the only thing people are talking about? You have also been vocal about your marriage plans. Comment.
I am pushed again and again to comment on my relationships. Wherever I go that is the only thing that pops up. I am not apologetic about my belief in the institution of marriage. That has nothing to do with why I did not get married earlier. I have spoken about Bipasha and our breakup only once on a television show. Now if people watch that show multiple times and say I only talk about her, then it’s their mistake.

You are known to have a great looking posterior. You strutted your stuff in Dostana and went nude in New York. How do you take the comment that you possess the best butt in the Hindi film industry?
Ha ha, I am not apologetic about my butt either. (laughs). If you have the best looking butt in the industry then you need to show it off because cinema is a visual medium. I remember a time when I joined films and people around me, made me feel apologetic about strutting your stuff. Today everyone is doing it. Now you get all these cool quotients for it as well – like ‘sexiest butt’ and ‘sexiest bachelor’. In the industry you never know when you will be complimented for the very thing you were first criticized for!

John Abraham wants to fall in love again

Posted on 21 Sep 2011 at 11:00am

John Abraham who has build up a great body by exercise and busy in promoting his upcoming film ‘Force’ wants to get married and still to be called as attractive man.

While talking to Mumbai Mirror John talked about her relationship with Bipasha Basu and also denied ever cheating her. John said, “Whatever had to happen has happened. I think we needed to move on. And we did just that.”

He added, “Speculations and perceptions are usually wrong. This one is no exception. I respected Bipasha when she was in my life. I still respect her when she is not in my life.”

Though Bipasha is not ready to greet him in her life, she has said, “I don’t believe in wasting a minute over someone who doesn’t value me.”

John has said that he doesn’t believe in washing his dirty linen in public. He explained, “Bipasha and I respected what we had. We are now in different spaces. Think of it, what’s the point in tracing backwards?”

When John was asked if he gets hurt once Bipasha has been linked with Rana Daggubatti, Shahid Kapoor or Josh Harnett. The actor said, “If she is happy in whatever she is doing, that’s all that matters.”

John also denied the rumours about dating Priya Marwah. He said, “There is no Priya Marwah. She doesn’t exist. At least in my life.”

Is he dating Deepika Padukone? John replied, “I am overtly fond of Deepika. She is a lovely girl. But I was certainly not dating her. I have nothing to lose when these rumours make headlines. I just feel bad for the girls involved.”

Talking about his future, John said, “I don’t want to be known as a guy who is roaming around with five women. I was very fair in my relationship with Bipasha. I guess I need to change a bit now. I’ll speak more frequently and clearly hereafter.”

He added “I really don’t know what my life holds for me. I am very happy with my present state of being. But I can fall in love again. I want to get married.”

He quickly added, “Yes, I have this tag of the sexiest man but married men are attractive too.”
