Set in a Bombay ghetto in the mid ‘80s and based on true-life accounts, Striker is a story of triumph of human spirit over indomitable odds. His patience and cool attitude are Surya’s biggest strengths. But life has ways of testing even the strongest of men! From the director of Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh and Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, and top-lining Siddharth Narayan (of Rang De Basanti fame), Striker is the story of a carrom player who grows up on the fringes of a criminal existence but does not succumb to it.
Striker is not about good versus evil.It is the story of a friendship, life in the city of dreams in the 80s, and of a game that is common but non-existent. Quite similar to pool (conceptually), carrom is common among people from the middle and lower income groups in India.
Born into a poor family, ‘Surya’ played by actor Siddarth grows up with few luxuries. Poor health keeps him away him away from school and that is when his elder brother introduces him to carrom.
Winning the Junior Carrom Championship at 12 is not enough to keep Surya’s fire for the sport burning through adolescence. Hopes for a job in Dubai replace the passion for carrom, as Surya grows into a young man.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is selected for the “Padma Bhushan” award on the occasion of 60th Republic Day.

44-year-old Khan, who made his directorial debut with the critically-acclaimed Taare Zameen Par in 2007, recently came out with 3 Idiots that has become the highest-earning movie in Bollywood.

Akshay Kumar won’t charge a penny for his next two films, Khatta Meetha and Tees Maar Khan. However, his banner, Hari Om Productions, is co-producing both films. So Akki explains, “If both films are hits, my production house will benefit. Even if the films flop, no one will lose money.By not charging my personal remuneration, I’m making sure that these films will at least romp home with no losses.”

Sanjay Dutt was spotted in the city recently, and he surprised us with his new lean look. He told us, “I have lost almost 25 kilos and it’s great to lose weight, I’m looking forward to losing even more. I want to make 12-pack abs, aur agar ho sakta hai toh 17-pack abs bhi kar lunga!”
Sanjay Dutt’s bade bhai, Amar Singh, was also present with him. Looking fit after his recent surgery, Amar Singh was in a humourous mood. He said, “Agar meri poonchh mein koi aag lagayega toh main Hanumanji ki tarah sari jagah aag laga dunga.” Reacting to the joke, Sanju smiled and said, “ Kya baat hai, aap bhi acting kar sakte hain!”
We caught a flash of Sanju baba’s brand new tattoo, which is on the left side of his chest, and has the names of s his mother and father. Sanju said, “I love all my tattoos. But this tattoo is very precious to me.”

Urvashi Sharma, who made her debut with Abbas Mustan’s ‘Naqaab’ failed to bag any prestigious project due to production house deal that prevented her from signing films under other banners. But now she has extricated herself from the deal and voila, she get ‘The Bounty Hunter ‘, a film that would be funded by U.K. Film council.

Sunandan Walia, who has earlier directed a documentary film titled ‘Days and Nights in an Indian Jail’, would be directing it. The Bounty Hunter comprises of British and British Asian cast including Kulvinder Ghir from ‘Bend It Like Beckham’.

We hear that it is a performance-oriented role but there is a nude scene in the film which she has declined to do. However, she is definitely in talks with the makers of the film.

Says Urvashi, “I have wasted one year of my career because of this contract issue as I did not get to do films at all. But now that I’m out of it, I’m looking to do some quality work. I want to show people my acting skills and not just be recognised as a pretty face.

I’m excited as I’m the only Indian girl in the film. I’m going to London this month to finalise things and one of the things that needs to be discussed is a nude scene.

We need to figure out how it will be done or whether it needs to be done at all. I’m an Indian girl, and in the film I play an Indian girl with Indian values. I wouldn’t be comfortable doing a nude scene.”

Back home, things are looking up as well. She has signed Chai Garam with Govinda and Sunil Shetty, and a song in an untitled Priyadarshan film that she says “is not an item number”.

Ask her what wnt wrong with Revathy Varmha’s Aap Ke Liye Hum and she says she opted out of the project because she was given post-dated cheques that bounced.
