Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One grossed Rs.26.5 crore with a net income of Rs.18.5 crore on the release date October 26, it became the highest ever Diwali day collection in the history of Indian cinema.
Second day collection of Ra.One was more impressive. SRK’s film was released on Diwali, though few critics appreciated it but few didn’t like it. But still film is doing well at the box office.
It is also the fact that Ra.One couldn’t break Salman’s film Bodyguard’s day one collection record which earned Rs 22 crore in the Indian market.
In the overseas market, Ra.One earned Rs.6.5 crore.
People have given different opinion about Ra.One but theatre owners are expecting that film will do great business.
“Although the film has got mixed reviews, the first day has been really good. We witnessed more than 80 percent occupancy,” a source in PVR said.
“Moreover, the extensive marketing of the film has created a curiosity among people, who are eager to see what is the film all about,” the source added.
CEO of Cinemax gave reasons of why Ra.One didn’t do great business at the box on day one.
“There could be two reasons — the 3D version of the film was made available a little late. Although in metros it was fine, but in other cities due to delayed release in 3D we had to cancel some of the shows,” said Sunil Punjab, CEO of Cinemax.
“Also, we saw a decline in the occupancy in the evening as it was Diwali time and people were busy in Diwali puja. But today (Thursday) the response has been encouraging since morning we have had good number of people coming to see the film,” he added.
Ra.One has been made with the budget of Rs.150 crore, it stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead along with Arjun Rampal.
Makers have earned Rs.35 crore from selling its satellite rights and Rs.77 crore from distribution rights.
It is also said that adults didn’t like the film.
