Recently a news reporter had a talk with Bollywood actress Amrita Rao about her upcoming film. She told that she has been the victim of the global recession because she had two big budget films in her hands but that failed to take off. And she only worked in ‘Love U Mr Kalaakar’ and she came to Delhi for promoting her film.
Amrita Rao says, “My last release was in 2009. The year 2010 should have had my films, but these two big-budget films got shelved, and so through 2010 I was shooting for Love U…. But this is not new to me — in 2007, too, I didn’t have a release. Promotions for Love U… are keeping me busy now. There’s no other project that I am working on at the moment or likely to start soon. I am committed to doing another film under the same banner, but I’m not sure when that will take off.”
Amrita was asked that if she will be so long absent from onscreen and there are so many new actresses are entering into the B-town isn’t it bothers her? She says, “When I got into films, there weren’t many actors in my age group. I’m glad that void is being filled. Newbies may be the flavour of the season, but what makes me a total package is that having started at a very young age, I have done some wholesome work over these years, giving me the advantage of youth and experience. New bies don’t worry me,”
Though she does not have many Bollywood films but still she does not consider going to South Film Industry. She says, “I did a Telugu film way back in 2007 — Athithi with Mahesh Babu. It was tough, especially with the language. And while the film was a commercial hit, it was so action-oriented that there was barely any scope for romance between me and the hero.”
After doing first Telugu Film in 2007, she gets offers from Tollywood even recently she got an offer to act opposite actor Siddharth, film titled Oh My Friend but she did not accept it. She says, “I chose not to do that film as at the time the offer came to me, Tollywood was in turmoil. I wasn’t comfortable working in an industry that has all these associations and was on strike every now and then. I don’t regret my decision; regional films are not my focus.”
Amrit doesn’t work in regional film but her sister Preetika has debuted in Kollywood. Amrita says, “I’d love to do a Marathi, Bengali or even a Tamil film. The role has to be really good. But I won’t go chasing a role. If it is meant for me, it will come to me. That rule applies to Bollywood, too.”
